Over the past several years, we have had numerous requests to rent our property for vacations, retreats, weddings, and so forth.

We are pleased to announce that Gypsy Creek Lodge will be available for daily, weekly, and monthly rentals as of August 9, 2008.

In addition, our Log Guest Cabin will be available starting on the same date.

We will continue to offer services through the Wellness Centre and Art Gallery, both to guests, and the community-at-large. This of course includes the ever-popular Art By The Falls series, as well as Anna's Saturday morning Yoga By The Falls.

We are very excited about sharing this amazing place on a whole new level!

Art By The Falls: Welcome to our 4th Season!!

Welcome to the 4^th season of Art By The Falls! Needless to say…we plan to make this one the best ever! Of course, the waterfalls are back by

popular demand, as are the trails and cottage galleries nestled deep within the forest.

And then, there is the art. Both Ken and Anna have been working hard at producing new and

inspiring work. In addition, as in the past, we will have a great collection of previous work available at a huge savings! So, if you are looking for that special piece, at a reasonable cost, and are looking to support your favourite artists (us), then you simply can’t go wrong.

And now for the coup de gras, so to speak…. This year’s first guest artist will be none other than the multi-talented Argentinean sculptor and painter, Carolina Lockwood. Some of Carolina’s smaller pieces were on exhibition at our Autumn Leaves Studio Tour show last fall. We are happy to have her back, with an even better selection of her soulful and inspiring work.

Another Long Winter

Another long winter is officially over. At least officially. Here in Ontario, from Gypsy Creek to Burlington, the piles of snow are far from gone. Thankfully, cabin fever was kept somewhat at bay by continued painting, and a number of exciting shows.

In addition to continuing Ontario exhibitions at Loft Gallery in Thornbury and EQ Gallery in Burlington, our work remained in permanence at Nativa Gallery in Nosara, Costa Rica.

In addition, we were kept busy with a number of new Ontario shows including those at the Queen’s Bush Café in Mount Forest, Hamilton Artists Inc. in Hamilton, the Winter Show at Loft Gallery and a great Christmas show at the now (sadly!) defunct Left Side Gallery in Flesherton.

Finally, we had an opportunity to participate (albeit in absentia) in a small community show near Montezuma, Costa Rica in December. This was a very special show, as the proceeds went to local community development and beach cleanup in the nearby village of Cabuya. The work was actually completed in Cabuya when we were there this past summer.

Anna will be presenting new paintings in her Touch of Whimsy series, as well as launching her new illustrated children's book, Fish in Gumboots!

Both Anna and Ken will also be performing as the musical duo Gypsy Creek! Original songs from Ken's last three CD's, plus contemporary favourites will be featured.

AUTUMN LEAVES STUDIO TOUR- September 28, 29, and 30

The leaves are turning at Gypsy Creek. The apples are ripe, and the first frost of the season has graced the soil with a silver mantle. Once again, it is time for the Autumn Leaves Studio Tour.

This year marks the 14th year for the tour, which draws people by the hundreds to Saugeen Country to enjoy the fall colours and visit 26 studios featuring some of the best arts and crafts anywhere. This year, Gypsy Creek is Studio "E", so keep an eye out for our red and yellow signs as you roll along our winding country roads.

Art By The Falls Returns August 25 and 26

Now in it’s third season, Art By The Falls returns to Gypsy Creek near Markdale on Saturday, August 25 and Sunday, August 26, from 12-5pm each day. This fine art show and sale takes place in a stunning natural setting. A short hike atop a wooded limestone cliff leads to two cottage galleries situated next to a beautiful series of waterfalls and rapids.

The show will feature guest artists Mary Tripp MacCarl and Rachel Green, as well as resident artists Anna Green and Ken Dunn. Mary, who describes her work as “art honouring nature” is no stranger to Grey County residents. Her Tree Spirits and Tree Sprites are one of a kind, hand-built, fired clay sculptures that are stained to blend in with the bark of a tree. They are designed to hang outside on a tree, fence, wall or inside as a decorative reminder of the importance of trees in our lives.

There are several versions of Tree Spirits, each is unique with its own personality. All are engraved with the words: “the spirit of the tree speaks … silent words of wisdom from generations past to those who will remain”. The Tree Sprites are a younger version of the Tree Spirits and carry the words “the future of the forest lies in the strength of the young tree”.

Painter Anna Green's style continues to evolve. Over the past year she has increasingly left watercolour behind to create gorgeous and whimsical acrylic paintings featuring faeries, fish, sheep, and other creatures, exotic and otherwise. Paintings from her two most recent series, “Spring Run-Off” and “A Touch of Whimsy” will be on exhibition, as well as some of her ever popular roosters. Anna is also in demand as a portrait artist, and would be happy to accept commissions.

Ken Dunn has also continued to develop his unique style of painting, characterized by abstract composition in both acrylic and oil. An emerging Ontario artist, his work is being increasingly exhibited and collected both here at home and abroad. For this show, Ken will be exhibiting some paintings from a series in progress entitled “Natural Tendencies”. The goal of this series is to uncover and explore the nature of the creative impulse. Each painting represents an independent effort at documenting the experience of the artist as those creative forces and motivations most deeply felt are accessed.

Rachel Green's work, which was introduced at our last show, will also return. Rachel is an artist who definitely “paints from the heart”. Her unaffected and lively acrylic paintings are filled with emotion. Her work is also currently being exhibited at the EQ Gallery in Burlington.

LIVING IN HARMONY

We are back in Nosara for the month of July. Anna is completing her 200 hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training at the Nosara Yoga Institute with Don and Amba Stapleton. She plans to put her training to good use, and offer yoga classes this fall at Gypsy Creek.

Both Anna and Ken are also working on new paintings for both Galeria Nativa, here in Nosara, as well as a Montezuma-area show in Cabuya in December.

We are staying at The Harmony Hotel, which in our opinion, is one of the finest hotels around. We have so many good things to say about Harmony, it’s impossible to list them all here. However, some aspects which truly stand out include the policy and practice of environmental and social responsibility, the incredible staff, the delicious organic food, and the Healing Center of Radiant Awakening, which offers both Yoga and Massage.

Harmony's Tiendita (“Little Store”) is one of the most amazing stores we have seen. In a village where it is hard to find anything but the basic necessities, it offers a wide array of items linked together by the themes of environmental and social responsibility. The selection of books is first rate, as are the organic personal care items. It even has art supplies! La Tiendita is the brain-child of Miami resident, Lee Bailey, who has also been very helpful in special ordering our art supplies over the past two years. Thank you, Lee!

BURLINGTON, ONTARIO SHOW: JUNE 23 - AUGUST 11

We are pleased to announce our first Burlington, Ontario show at EQ Gallery, 710 Cumberland Avenue (between Guelph and Walkers Line, just south of Fairview, 905-639-5551). In addition to work by Anna Green and Ken Dunn, the painting of Brian Choi will be featured.

Brian has been painting for the past 35 years using a variety of media, including watercolour, acrylic, and oil. His subjects include both landscapes and abstract work. Brian graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree in South Korea, and has exhibited both there and in Ontario.

The opening reception will be on Saturday, June 23 from 5 to 9pm, with all three artists in attendance. Both Anna and Ken will be unveiling several new works for this show.

ART BY THE FALLS RETURNS MAY 19 & 20

Art By The Falls returns to Gypsy Creek Gallery for its third season with a Show and Sale of Fine Art from 12-5pm, Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20. Featuring new works by both resident artists Anna Green, and Ken Dunn, the show takes place in a private nature reserve. From the parking area, a 0.5 km wooded trail atop a limestone cliff leads to two cottage galleries situated on a rushing creek, complete with rapids and waterfalls. Please consider joining us once again for this celebration of art and nature. Last year’s show was attended by hundreds of people from all over Ontario, and beyond. Admission is free, but donations for the upkeep of the reserve are gladly accepted.

CAUTION: A short hike over rugged terrain is required. Although not difficult for most, this can be a challenge for small children, the elderly, and those with limited mobility and/or other health problems.

There are steep cliffs and waterfalls, so please stay on the trails. In addition, trails can be SLIPPERY WHEN WET, so exercise CAUTION. For the safety of all concerned, PLEASE- NO PETS ALLOWED.

NOTES FROM NOSARA

We have settled into our winter home and art studio here in Nosara, on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Each morning, the sound of the crashing surf and howler monkeys awaken us at sunrise, around 5:30am. By 9am the sun is so hot, we must retreat indoors until things cool off around 3pm. A great excuse to paint! Before long, the sun settles once again into the ocean just before 6pm. These regular natural rhythms are very conducive to the creative process, and we have focused our efforts on each producing a series of 6 new acrylic canvases. In addition, Anna is working on a series of watercolors. Above left is one of Ken’s new paintings “Tierra Madre” (24 x 24”, acrylic on canvas) which is currently being exhibited at the Nativa Gallery (506-682-0882) in Nosara. Anna also has four acrylic paintings being exhibited at Nativa. The gallery is located in the main commercial area of Playa Guiones, approximately 200 meters west of Café de Paris.

GREETINGS FROM THE RAINFOREST

National Geographic Magazine has described Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula as “the most biologically intense place on the planet”. Here, the lush rainforest literally hangs over secluded beaches pounded by the Pacific surf. Scarlet macaws, toucans, parrots, and hundreds of other bird species rule the skies above. Countless monkeys swing through the trees, and the sound of cicadas in the hot, humid forest is deafening. Artistic inspiration wells up inside our souls, and we are set free. Colours explode onto paper and canvas, volcanic as the sand beneath our feet.

UPCOMING WINTER EXHIBITIONS

With winter upon us, we have once again begun the process of hibernating and painting in anticipation of spring. If you are out and about and in search of artistic adventure, check out the following shows and exhibitions.

Why not give the gift of original art this holiday season? You can find our work in both The Christmas Miniatures Show at Riversong Gallery in Neustadt, as well as the Best Of 2006 Variety Show at Left Side Gallery in Flesherton, which continues until the end of January.

In addition, also in the thriving artistic community of Flesherton, our work will be on display at the new Donabie’s Restaurant. Proprietors James and Diane Donabie prepare great home-made fare, which can be enjoyed in front of their cozy woodstove.

Also in Flesherton, Anna’s work will be on display at Ann Wylie-Toal’s newly renovated storefront, Spirit Space, as well as Danielle’s Pastry Shop in nearby Eugenia.

In Clarksburg, The Loft Gallery celebrates their grand opening on January 20 with a Winter Show, with representative work from both of us.

FLESHERTON FLURRIES- SATURDAY DEC. 2, 2006

The village of Flesherton will be a flurry of activity this December 2nd as the creative business owners plan to stay open for a special 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. celebration of the village.

The two village art spaces: Flesherton Art Gallery and Left Side Gallery are both hosting openings during the Flurries, and artist Val McMurray's floral paintings will return to the corner in Ecowood.

"We've certainly got enough culture for anyone's taste," says Flesherton Art Gallery owner David Turner who will host a show of new works by Owen Sound painter Lorne Wagman. The Left Side Gallery will also feature the annual variety show (The Best of 2006) with Estelle Bauduin, Peter Becket, Michael Warren-Darley, Anna Maria Dickinson, Ken Dunn, Steve Eby, Kate Esplen, Anna Green, George Maes, Ruth Mittleholtz, Jenny Reid, Jennifer Stenberg, and more.

A great number of stores, galleries, and eateries are each donating delightful prizes and the throng will gather at Donabie’s restaurant at about 9:15 for an exciting draw followed by music and dancing.

A big thank you to everyone who attended our second season of shows at Gypsy Creek this past summer. Both "Art By The Falls" and "The Autumn Leaves Studio Tour " were very successful, and will be back next year. In fact, we are contemplating adding more "Art By The Falls" weekends next year. The first has been tentatively scheduled for the May 24th Holiday Weekend.

Thanks also to those who supported our shows at other galleries, including Left Side, Riversong, and the Durham Art Gallery. Your support is much appreciated!

Although Gypsy Creek is now closed for the season, a number of shows and exhibitions at other galleries, as well as gift shops and restaurants are planned over the winter months.

LEFT SIDE SHOW CONTINUES TO OCT 1

After months of preparation, our Left Side Gallery show opened in Flesherton on Saturday afternoon, Sept 2. A steady downpour made us wonder if many would brave the cold, wet weather to attend. But the local arts community is not one easily turned away by bad weather. Before long, the gallery was filled with kindred spirits, mingling, munching, and musing, all the while enveloped by a perimeter of new and exciting art. The show has been extended to October 1, so drop in and soak up the ambience.

2nd ANNUAL ART BY THE FALLS

Art By The Falls returned to Gypsy Creek Gallery for it’s second annual show and sale of fine art from 12-5pm on Saturday, August 5 and Sunday, August 6, 2006. The show featured the work of resident artists, Anna Green and Ken Dunn. Anna, who studied at the Ontario College of Art, has been a painter for over twenty years. Her watercolour portraits, landscapes, and still life have garnered both local and international acclaim. Ken, who works in both acrylics and mixed media has focused on the development of an abstract expressionist style which is both evocative and unique.

Both artists have exhibited locally at several shows and galleries, including the Durham Art Gallery and the Left Side Gallery in Flesherton. They are also members of the Markdale Artists Group and resident artists at Riversong Gallery in Neustadt. Gypsy Creek Gallery will also be participating in this year’s Autumn Leaves Studio Tour.

Visitors to Art By The Falls were treated to more than just great art. The show took place in a spectacular natural setting complete with wooded trails winding along an escarpment to rushing waterfalls where two cottage galleries are nestled in the forest. The show attracted visitors from not only Grey-Bruce but across Ontario, California, Germany, and the Netherlands as well.
